It's the first question on people's minds when they're thinking of using the internet to work from home:

How exactly can I make money?

When you're not familiar with how business works on the internet, it can prove to be quite confusing. People are used to bricks and mortar - shops on the High Street where you can clearly see money exchanging hands. But how does the world of online business work? What are the different ways you can use to earn money yourself?

Well, before we explore this, let's be crystal clear about one thing:

When you start building your online business, the 'monetization' part generally comes last, no matter what strategy you choose. People think they'll make money without lifting a finger but those are unrealistic expectations: You will always need to do the groundwork first - that's important to remember.

In fact, the video I pointed you to in the previous post, talks about 'monetization' as the last part of a 4-part process.

Monetization comes last when implementing your plan. But nothing will make much sense until you know more about how you'll actually be making money in the end, so 'monetization' is where we'll begin. And rightly so. After all, making money is your primary goal, right?

• Part 1 of the SBI Video - Whether you have a service, product, store or subject (e.g. writing about your hobby or passion) - you can turn it into a successful online business. They use a real life example - Jim.

  The video explains how Jim can build a second income for himself in different ways:
  
  
  • He can build a content-focused site to promote a store selling archeological artifacts.

• Part 2 of the SBI Video - The first major step in building your online business is to find a profitable niche that interests you. You do this by brainstorming and doing some keyword research (more on this in later posts). Your next step is to then devise a 'diversified monetization plan', as they call it in the video (more on this too, in later posts).



• Part 'M' of the SBI Video (the first part) - Up to this point, the video has briefly touched upon each of the four steps of the strategy:
  
  Content - Traffic - Presell - Monetize (otherwise known as C-T-P-M).
  
  This particular part of the video is where they explain the 'Monetize' step in a little more detail. But it's worth noting how much they emphasize the following point:
  
  Generating income is, of course, your goal. But you can't start any process at the goal. The 'Content-Traffic-Presell' steps are what attract the free, highly targeted visitors and get them in the mood to buy. And that's what takes you to the 'Monetize' step.
  
  Without the 'Content-Traffic-Presell' steps, there's no 'Monetize'. Or in other words, you can't make money if there's no-one there to sell to! So that's why the 'Content-Traffic-Presell' steps are so important.



• Part 'M' of the SBI Video (still in the first part) - The aim is to build trust and credibility with your visitors. This is part of the 'Presell' step (P) in the 'C-T-P-M' process - more on that in later issues.
  
  Once you've built trust and credibility, your site is ready to convert those visitors into income. That's when the monetization step comes in. So in the video narrator's words, the 'Monetize' step, or 'M' as she calls it…. is actually the easy part.



• Part 'M' of the SBI Video (still in the first part) - The best way to build a stable, long-term, financial future, is to diversify. Ever heard of that saying, 'Don't put all your eggs in one basket'? What if you choose one monetization strategy and for some reason or another, it stops making you money? Minimize this risk. Blending together a variety of monetization strategies, is the most prudent way.

These are just a few nuggets that can turn an internet-based work-at-home business into a massive income opportunity. A site that generates income focuses on preparation first (C-T-P) in order to create the best online business income.
