The Home Business Neophyte's First Post ~ Goals, Goals, Goals
People of the world! I believe an introduction is in order… [drum roll please…]
I am The Home Business Neophyte.
Unlike the all-knowing Home Business Geek, I am just starting out. My aim is to build a home business that will enable my family and I to live comfortably; live where and how we want, go where we want, buy what we want… you know the deal. I'd also like to be in the position to donate to charities and causes I believe in, to help others.
One of the most important things for me is that I need to be passionate about what I do. That's totally un-negotiable.
Another thing - working a nine-to-five job just isn't for me - for one, my sleeping hours are all out of whack and I seem to subconsciously repel the word 'schedule'. Ick - it makes me shudder just thinking about it…
Another reason is that, I get so many ideas and see so many opportunities everywhere that I think I'd go mad if I couldn't spend my time working on developing at least one of them. All of you entrepreneurs out there, I think, can relate to that…
So how much do I want to make?
Hmmm. That's a tricky one. On the one hand I don't want to shoot too low and limit my potential. On the other hand I don't want to aim so high that it could become totally unrealistic for me (at least in my eyes). But let's give myself a ball park here. This is my journal, after all…
Absolute minimum? I'd like to create an income system that generates £30,000 a year (about $60k) in terms of earnings (so not including profit that would be reinvested into the business). But if the sky's the limit, (which, when it comes to the internet it most certainly is) then I'd like to create a multi-million pound home business that does indeed run from home. I'd like to outsource as much as possible, running a virtual office. And I'd like to focus on building a system that basically genenerates home business income with or without me. (Preferably without me!)
Passive income does, indeed, rock, as the Home Business Geek puts it.
To give myself a top-end figure to aim for - hmmmm let's go for £2.5 million a year, shall we?
I know that this kind of set up is possible, because there are internet entrepreneurs out there who are earning multiples of that, with none, or just a few employees - everything is outsourced.
Obviously your business strategy and the markets you choose will have a bearing on your home business model. But my point is that, my mere £2.5 million goal, is just a drop in the ocean compared to these internet entpreneur multi-millionaries! I'm hardly being greedy.
Do I want to build a business to sell on, or do I want to build a business to pass on to the next generation of my family? Hmmm… tricky question. Depends on the offer really doesn't it???
I wouldn't sneeze at being offered £5 million but then again if it's worth more… well it would be a mighty fine day to be in the position of turning that kind of offer down wouldn't it?
Right. Next. Time frame.
Sheesh - this is turning into quite a difficult post for me. And it's only my first one! All of a sudden I'm starting to commit myself to things…
Let's say I'd like to have reached my goal within 5 years.
….
Deep breath. That was pretty taxing to set. This is a public journal after all - everyone's gonna see this! Ha ha! Talk about taking myself out of my comfort zone!
But you know what? I think it's going to do me some good to be held accountable like this. After all, without having to answer to anyone, you can just meander along until you're old and grey…
So that's me, the Home Business Neophyte. And those are my goals.
And this journal will chronicle my journey as I reach them.
