Mark my words. You will be much more powerful once you've read this book because of the common sense strategies it includes. Knowledge is power, and this has never been truer than in business.
The author, Sydney Johnston, is a well-known Ebay expert. Her book 'Make Your Net Auction Sell!' used to sell for $30 USD. But now it's free.

The 'Clever' Strategy…
OK so you've read the book. Now what? How do you take full advantage of Ebay, while still being independent?
Well, it's certainly a much more prudent idea to build your own C-T-P-M site, based on what you want to sell. Your own C-T-P-M site should be the crux of your business. And it means that you won't be a slave to Ebay.
If you need to refresh your memory of the C-T-P-M process, you can revisit a previous home-business-income post here…
Instead of being dependent on Ebay, you should consider having your own site from which you can sell your products or services. Yes, you'll be able to build your own customer database based on the sales you make from Ebay. But also… you'll have the option of making even more money by adding other monetization options to your own site.
Put it this way:
Say, for some reason, Ebay choose to shut you down one day…
If you had your own successful site (that followed the C-T-P-M strategy for home businesses), you'd still have a site of your own, that attracts its own traffic. You'll have a large customer database that you've grown, and you'll have other income streams too.
That's a great back-up plan to have!
That's why I really recommend that you really think about your strategy instead of jumping straight in with both feet, like so many other Ebay sellers tend to do.
As I hope you realize by now, having your own piece of virtual real estate is key. No matter how you get your traffic!
Ebay Is Just That…
A Way To Get Traffic. Period.
Don't confuse Ebay's great traffic generation potential with it being a one-stop hosting and marketing solution. That misunderstanding is the key to becoming a slave to picking, packing, and shipping for Ebay!
By hosting your shopfront on Ebay and nowhere else - by not being able to lead the customers you made through Ebay, to your own site - by only having one monetization strategy (through Ebay!) - well, you're at Ebay's beck and call! And that's not a strong, long-term position to be in. Especially if they choose to close you down for no apparent reason, with no signal as to when and if they'll let you 'reopen'.
Another point: When it comes to making money, diversification is key. It's a risky choice, to put all your eggs in one basket.
Bottom line?
Ebay can indeed provide you with a great home business opportunity, yielding unlimited potential. But depending on Ebay as your only store front, source of traffic, and your only monetization strategy, is a very risky strategy indeed.
So make sure you don't become too dependant on Ebay. And make that your priority from the very start.
Use Ebay.
Don't become a slave to it.
